February 2008: Tsukiji Market
Tsukiji, the great Tokyo Market, has become over the years an unmissable part of any visit of the city. It takes courage, however, to come and observe the tiny alleys buzzing with activity, to see the fish and vegetables at their freshest, to witness the mystique of tuna auctions. That means a very early morning… Or a very late night.

Every year in January, Setagaya, the largest of Tokyo's wards, organizes a big open-air market in its streets, giving everyone an excuse to eat, buy or stroll.

Last day of the “Ashes and Snow” exhibition. Rain and long lines. Off limits. There's still the Nomadic museum to be seen, and nearby, Tsukishima and its programmed destruction.

28 October 2006: Gotokuji, Tokyo
The Gotokuji temple in the Setagaya Ward of Tokyo has a cat at the center of its primary myth, and is the place where originate the maneki-neko, the little statues of beckoning cats bringing good fortune.
